CARGO BOAT SAVED FROM SINKING
PERSONNEL of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday saved a cargo boat from sinking in the waters between Fuga Island and Dalupiri Island in Babuyan Islands, Cagayan province. A report from the Coast Guard Detachment in Calayan said that the cargo boat Macarra started to rock when its passengers panicked because of the big waves. Police Inspector Mario Marragun, officer-in-charge of the Calayan Police Station said that based on their initial investigation Macarra had engine trouble while on its way to Claveria, Cagayan. Too, “a sudden surge of wave distressed the boat, thereby causing panic among its passengers.” One of Macarra’s crew added that they could have saved the boat from sinking and could continue their voyage if only the passengers didn’t panic. The unnamed crew added that when they could no longer calm their passengers down, they immediately sought assistance from Coast Guard.
